Frequently Asked Questions
What can Shockwave treatment help with?
Is Shockwave painful?
You may experience some discomfort during treatment but the pain should be tolerable. Due to the analgesic effect of Shockwave Therapy many patients report immediate pain relief following treatment. If you experience pain after treatment you may use ordinary non-prescription painkillers such as paracetamol. Do not use anti-inflammatory medication or Ibuprofen as both may interfere with the body’s self-healing process.
How many sessions are needed?
The amount of treatment sessions will vary dependant on the type of shockwave used and conditions being treated. As a general rule at least four treatment sessions is advised to make significant changes to the tissues and begin the healing process. As this is encouraging the body to heal itself your body will progress in the healing process even 2-3 months after treatment has stopped.
What should I expect during a treatment session?
There will be an initial discussion around the condition and a check through of any contraindications (reasons why shockwave may not be safe or recommended for you) to treat. The area concerned will be assessed for suitable sites to focus on and we will commence with the treatment, which can take between 5-10 minutes depending upon the area. There will be some aftercare advice and the next session will be booked in for around a week later.
How successful is the treatment?
Statistics vary based on the condition being treated - varying from 60-90% success rate. Following on from your final treatment session you will be advised on further rehabilitative exercises to compliment your recovery and it can take a further 12 weeks to fully realise the full benefits of shockwave as your body's natural healing and recovery takes over.
Can Shockwave treat old/persistent injuries?
Shockwaves can treat both long-term chronic conditions and newer injuries, there is a great deal of evidence to show that Shockwave Therapy can achieve great results even with historical conditions.
Treatment Fees:
Per session: £60.00.
It is recommended that a minimum of four sessions is needed to successfully deliver the shockwave treatment.
